Erasmus in Bologna (October 2024) - Exploring education systems, Inclusion & Methodologies
St Ignatius College's vision is the empowerment of all learners, so they leave each level of schooling well-equipped to be active citizens with the necessary skills and competences. Achieving this, requires continuous investment in the professional development of its educators. In addition to the centrally and school-driven professional development, the Head of College Network, Dr Doreen Said Pace, has been instrumental in securing the Erasmus+ Accreditation and the related funding. Under her coordination, St Ignatius College has been awarded the European Award for Innovative Teaching in the Primary Years for Wellbeing and the recognition of school of excellence from the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT). In acknowledging the link between wellbeing and learning even in the crucial early years of education and care, Doreen has facilitated the possibility for 5 Kindergarten Educators (KGE) hailing from each of the primary schools within the college to attend and participate in this enriching learning experience. The enthusiasm with which the KGEs returned with led to the development of an Atelier (Doreen, can you give a very brief definition of Atelier) - a first for the college and Malta. Currently, works on the Atelier are progressing at a good rate with its launch projected for the first quarter of 2026. Special thanks should go to EUPA (what does this stand for) Malta, Fondieu, the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth and Innovation, and the respective Heads of School for their continued support. Here are the five educators who benefited from this funding and had the opportunity to visit Bologna:
Ms Sarah Cassar Zammit has been teaching for the last 10 year. She is presently at Luqa Primary.
Ms Marisa Ben Hadj Khalifa has 37 years of teaching experience. Currently she teaches at Qormi SĠ Primary.
